Saturdays in the fall are usually good for a few things.
There’s college football for those who watch it, and there’s a big one today with LSU and Ole Miss but we don’t cover much college football on Propsguru. Yet.
Then there’s soccer — err football, depending on which side of the Atlantic you’re on — with another Premier League Saturday.
And by the way, we also have MLS action today. Our MLS player props are still available on Propsguru if you’re looking for some help weighing your picks. With the NFL season now in full swing, though, we’re spending a little less time highlighting the MLS model here in Props Daily.
And, of course, Saturday means we’re one sleep away from NFL Sunday.
There are 14 games on tomorrow’s slate, plenty of props to get through, and a few teams already facing considerably more pressure than they probably expected this early in the season.
Which brings us a dread that plagues NFL teams.
The Dreaded 0-2 Start
Interestingly enough, we have six teams that were supposed to make a splash this season now at risk for the dreaded 0-2 start to the season.
Historically, 90% of football teams that lose their first two games don't make an appearance in the postseason.
The Dallas Cowboys are on the chopping block, having dropped their season opener 28 to 20 against the New York Giants. They're facing off against division rival the Washington Commanders in a game that, for fans at least, will feel like a must-win.
The Green Bay Packers stumbled as well, losing 39 to 22 against Minnesota. Carried over from last year, the team is in the middle of a six-game losing streak that will be difficult to interrupt against the “truly formidable” New York Jets.
We've also got the Houston Texans at risk. Houston was widely expected to dominate the AFC South, but have already stumbled with a 36 to 31 loss to the Bills in Week One. Another loss to the Bengals will genuinely disrupt what was expected to be a strong season.
Last, we've got the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns. Miami lost 27 to 13 against Las Vegas in a game that was never very competitive, while the Cleveland Browns managed only 10 points Week One against Jacksonville.
By the way, the Los Angeles Rams are in a similar position, but won't square off in their Week Two performance until Monday night. Who do you think is more likely to drop game 2?
The Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Carousel
We now know Cooper Rush will get the start against Carolina, with undrafted rookie Jack Strand serving as his backup. Tua Tagovailoa is doubtful with an oblique injury, while Michael Penix Jr. has been ruled out as he continues working his way back from his knee injury.
For us, the quarterback situation matters beyond who takes the first snap. Rush completed 12 of 22 passes for 143 yards in Week One, and who’s under center can affect everything from passing volume and completion expectations to the projections for Atlanta’s receivers.
It’s one we’ll be watching closely as Sunday’s lines continue to move.
