Happy Monday! It may say August on the calendar, but for sports fans all over the country, it’s beginning to feel a lot like the fall. The NFL is almost back, friends!
Right now, millions of families are preparing for the back to school rush. Supply shopping, meet the teacher night, and PTO meetings sit at the forefront of most parents’ minds.
Today, we invite you to side step a little of that back to school chaos as we take a look at some NFL news.
General News Roundup
Injuries, retirement news, and more.
Teddy Bridgewater has exited the Lions training camp after announcing his retirement. If you feel like you’ve read this story before, that would be because the same thing happened in 2023.
In that case, Bridgewater returned to Detroit the following year.
This time, his head coach Dan Campbell believes that the retirement will stick.
"I think he can only truly answer that, but I feel like this is where it's at for sure right now. This is where it needs to be and where he felt," Campbell said. "And his biggest worry was letting us down. That's the type of guy he is.”
Here’s wishing Bridgewater a happy retirement.
Patrick Mahomes highlights a long list of players returning to the league this year after missing most of the previous season to injury.
“It was always the goal to be able to practice when I got to training camp. We kind of hit that step,” Mahomes said at the start of camp. “Now, it’s about building and keep getting better and better, so when the regular season comes around, I can be available.”
NFL Scheduling News
A teams starting schedule can have a big impact on the trajectory of their entire season. How are things looking for the Chicago Bears?
A quick glance at the Bears schedule doesn’t do much to create alarm. They have a modest entry into the season, picking up games against five respectable but manageable opponents.
Things get tricky right around week seven. It’s at this stage of the season that teams generally want an easier go. It can be beneficial to use that time to rest up a bit, and get ready for the playoffs.
Chicago will definitely still be hustling at that pivotal stage.
First of all, they’ve got a gnarly three game cadence, going from Thursday, to Monday, to Sunday play. While not disastrous, switching up the routine can be a genuinely difficult adjustment for teams.
It doesn’t help that they are playing genuinely difficult opponents during that stretch—including both teams who played in the Super Bowl last year.
It’s nothing for Chicago fans to panic about. Still, it’s definitely a stretch the Bears will have circled on their calendars.
