One month from kickoff and NFL news continues to trickle in at a steady pace. Not all of it is good. As training camp continues to ramp up, teams are gradually learning their identities for the 2026 season.

In some cases, those team identities will lack central pieces. Off-season injuries continue to poke holes in rosters as the season grows near. We will look at that, and more, below.

News From Training Camp

The Lions have been dealt a blow. They aren’t the only ones.

There is something particularly nefarious about an off-season injury. For what gain has this come to pass? Well, lo and behold, football is still dangerous even when there aren’t millions of fans tuning in to watch.

The Detroit Lions re-experienced this with newly signed center, Cade Mays. Mays is sidelined for at least ten weeks with a risk fracture.

This news came coupled with reports that Isiah Pacheco is also out with a sprained MCL. Pacheco is hopeful for a Week 1 return.

The Washington Commanders, meanwhile, are without Laremy Tunsil who suffered a torn tricep injury during practice.

Finally, we’ve got trouble in the Windy City. Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III will miss all of the preseason due to a sprained groin injury. He is expected to return in time for the season opener.

NFL Metrics That Matter

If you bet NFL props, you’ll want to pay attention.

Prop betting is extremely stat driven. Arguably more so than any other type of betting activity. If you want sustained results, you need to understand the numbers.

Today, we’re looking at one figure in particular. Target share.

For NFL prop betting target share is quite possibly the most important volume related stat line for evaluating wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs.

Target share is the percentage off pass attempts that are directed to a particular player. In other words, it reflects the team’s offensive priorities, regardless of outcome.

It’s easy to want to look instead at total receiving yards or touchdowns. They’re flashier stat categories with obvious appeal.

Those lines are certainly worthy of review. That said if you could only look at a single line, target share is your answer.

Why? Because no other line can measure coaching intent with similar clarity. There is a lot of unpredictable variance in any football game. Where touchdowns and receiving yards can be informed by game day flukes, target share reflects the driving philosophy behind a team’s activity.

It’s consistent in a way that other stat categories simply aren’t.
