Happy Monday, folks. The NFL is rapidly approaching regulation play. Ahead of the 2026 season, we've already seen how teams are managing their rosters.

While last week's preseason games were more or less what you would expect (essentially exhibition play), we did get a peek into how some teams plan to utilize their rosters.

Today, we take a look at some recent NFL news and examine how it will impact the season going forward.

Quick Bets Recap

Last Night’s Quick bets delivered mixed results.

While our primary focus has been NFL, we do have occasional MLS picks over the weekend. The ones from yesterday didn’t do so well.

Vincent Janssen was a miss. He took only one shot in Sunday's game, and no, it did not find the back of the net. Robert Lewandowski, playing for the Chicago Fire, took more looks with three, but they were equally fruitless. And with Cole Bassett, we were officially out of luck. Bassett took no shots and scored no goals.

As a reminder, folks, soccer props are genuinely trickier than the NBA or the NFL.

That's it for this week. We'll be back in your inbox with more MLS picks next Saturday.

NFL Injury Report

Some teams are already taking major hits.

Jeremiyah Love of the Arizona Cardinals experienced an ankle sprain last week. He's listed as unlikely to play again during the preseason, though he is expected to return in the season opener.

George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers, meanwhile, is at the late stage of nursing a torn Achilles. His expectation is to play in Melbourne for the season opener.

Unfortunately, there have already been season-ending injuries, including Ricky Pearsall, who is out for the year with his knee, and Jamal Adams, also out with his knee.

NFL Rookie Abandons Professional Sports

For most people, a career in the NFL is the realization of an almost impossible dream. Who would give up an opportunity reserved only for the top sliver of a percent of athletes?

The answer to that question is Ceyair Wright, the Cincinnati Bengals rookie cornerback, who is confirmed to have left the team to pursue a career in the film industry. The news is not entirely aspirational. Ceyair Wright was offered a lead role in a major film. He also has an extensive acting resume that dates back to childhood. You may have recognized him from Space Jam: A New Legacy, where he played LeBron James's son. He's also appeared on various TV series.

Choosing between professional sports and film acting is a good problem to have.
